The Stonewall Working Group is Bloomington DSA's group dedicated to LGBTQ+ advocacy, support, and mutual aid.
Rights gained are rights easily lost when we lack the cultural and organizational infrastructure needed to support them. This painful lesson has been taught to us time and again over the last few years, and it's been especially dire for the LGBTQ community.
Building this infrastructure on a municipal level, and turning Bloomington into the living heart of queer liberation in Indiana, is the primary goal of Bloomington DSA's Stonewall Working Group!
From influencing local government policy and programs, to coordination with other local LGBTQ organizations in the efforts of expanding outreach, advocacy and education, we of the SWG are aiming high and ready for the long haul!
Here's a current list of some of our biggest projects:
- Pressing city officials to establish a formal LGBTQ city commission, which would be a body that can officially dedicate city resources to uplifting our local LGBTQ community
- Planning a Trans Day of Remembrance event in coordination with The Front Door LGBTQ community center
- Researching the needs and logistics of a rapid-responce defense group for our local LGBTQ community
